Port
City Corvette Club of Charleston was organized in 1993 with five members:
Samuel
Smalls, the president. Joseph Grant. Julius Mitchell, Leroy Morrison and James McPherson. Because Charleston is a sea port
town, and is called the "Port City", the group decided to name the group Port City Conrette Club of Charleston.
In
April of 1993, Port City traveled to Greenville, South Carolina to attend The
International
Council of Corvette Clubs. This was Port City's first quarterly meeting. In July, the club took another trip, this
time to Huntsville, Alabama where Port City joined and became members of The International Council of Corvette Clubs known
as "I Triple C".
In
1994, the club added four new members: Anthony Brown, Earl Coleman. Earl
Johnson
and Frank Smith. Along the way, three members (Leroy Morrison, Samuel Smalls and Earl Coleman) decided to leave the group,
leaving the club with six members.
In
2003, Betty Gadsden, the first and only female in the club joined, bringing membership to seven.
Since
joining The International Council of Corvette Clubs, The Port City Corvette Club has traveled all over the East Coast. Every
three months, the club travels to a different state for quarterly meetings. The Port City members are constantly meeting new people,
Good People!!
making new friends, sharing stories and events with other Corvette owners from all over the country.
In 2005, Port City lost two more members (Earl
Johnson and Frank Smith) leaving only five members to carry on. But wait, Port City lost two, but within eight months
gained fourteen new members including another female. In the fourteen, two old members returned. Port City Corvette Club of Charleston is now nineteen
members strong, and still growing.
